Stepping Stones Relaunch

GEODE relaunched the Stepping Stones program on July 14, with five entrepreneurs comprising the first cohort. Classes will run for six weeks, at which time they will be eligible to apply for a micro loan.

John Marunchak has a diverse background in both teaching and business. John has taught in both South Korea and Japan, and also at Laurentian University and Cambrian College in Sudbury. In 2005, John graduated with a Master's Degree in Educational Psychology and Leadership Studies from the University of Victoria, and he was awarded an Honours Degree in Philosophy from the University of Western Ontario in 2001. While completing his undergraduate degree, John also studied at the Richard Ivey School of Business. He has worked as an International Sales Manager for AYR1.com in Sudbury and as an Account Manager for Pitney Bowes of Canada. Prior to joining GEODE, John ran his own tutoring business, English Language Academic Tutoring (ELAT).

Candace Jazvac has a long history of community involvement. While still in high school she volunteered regularly at a seniors centre in her community, and upon graduation received an award for her commitment to the centre. Currently a student at Laurentian, studying Political Science, Candace is active on many social issues, including environmental and anti-poverty advocacy. She has also worked on political organizing, in the office of a Sudbury area MP and with the Laurentian University Student Newspaper, Lambda, where she currently serves as Editor-in-chief.
